Innerleithan Sda round 1 2013

My first race for 2013 was at innerleithan where the Scottish Downhill association where kicking off there race season. They had taped a brilliant track out with a good mix to test evverybodys ability. The track was packed with tight wood sections, jumps, drops and fast steep sections.
I felt this weekend would be a great opportunity to see where i was sitting in my physicaly and mentally across the youth category but most importantly just to see how fast i was going on my new bike.

Saturday Practice Day:

I woke up early and the sun was beaming down on the village of innerleithan. I knew we were in for a good dry day of practice and was feeling really up for it and i could not wait to get onto the hill for my first run. The track was brilliant i enjoyed most of it except the little tight woods at the top but i knew i could get them dialled in before Sunday race day. I had a slight mechanical with my Ethirteen hub so that killed a little bit of time during my practice day i just managed to squeze in 3 runs. This wasnt ideal as i didnt know how much the track had changed out through the day and now had the anxious wait until my practice early morning sunday.

Sunday Race Day:

With a good nights sleep i woke up on the sunday expecting the worst with heavy rain forecasted for the sunday i knew it could get really bad. The rain only really lasted half an hour on sunday morning which actually improved the tracks conditions as it made the track alot more grippier. First practice run in the morning went well and i was hitting all my lines i was doing before my problem on the saturday and was feeling good and strong on the bike. First Race: I started of with a really good pace was hitting all my lines just the way i wanted to and felt really good i had a slight problem though after the first fire road i caught the boy in front and got stuck behind him for a while losing me some time i was kinda annoyed about. But i did know i had alot left in the tank for my second race run.
Second race run: I ended up getting put behind the same boy i caught in my first race run so i knew if i could try catch him before the first fire road i could pass him cleanly, i got past him and was feeling great and alot faster on my bike i then had a few mistakes just after the first fire road over cutting the corner and slipping on a few roots but i still never gave up. I got to the bottom to find out that i was 5 seconds slower than my first run so was a little bummed out about that.  I ended up finish 12th overall which was okay considering my runs.

I now know what i need to do heading into the British Downhill Series Round 2 at fortwilliam.

I would just like to say a bike thanks to everyone supporting me this year: decade-europe
Bespoke Bikes and the bum patch factory.

See use all at the BDS
